Spectrum Of Health Podcast Episode #225

A Healthier You Begins with Me featuring Dr. Hemal Patel | Episode 225

In this week’s episode, I spoke with my colleague Dr. Hemal Patel. We explored mitochondrial health, including what happens to mitochondria during chronic illness, and the concepts of mitochondrial autophagy and biogenesis. Dr. Patel gave an overview of his innovative new mitochondrial efficiency test (mescreen), including the different panels and what they measure. We went through my own test results, analyzing areas that were out of balance like my high baseline respiration. Dr. Patel provided his insights on what may have contributed to my results, like prolonged stress, and offered potential solutions to support mitochondrial health such as specific peptides, light therapy, breathing techniques, and more.

Make sure to check out the link down below for the mescreen test as well as other ways you can connect with Dr. Patel!

Key Notes From This Episode:

  • Diving Into The Chronicles of Mitochondrial Illness
  • The game-changer test that quantifies mitochondrial efficiency!
  • I share my own mitochondrial test results showing dysfunction – even with a healthy lifestyle
  • Dr. Patel taps peptides, light frequencies, EM energy, breathwork
  • And so much more!

About Dr. Hemal Patel

Dr. Hemal Patel is a Tenured Professor and Vice-Chair for Research in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of California, San Diego, and has a dual appointment as a VA Research Career Scientist and VA Research Pharmacologist at the VA San Diego Healthcare System. He is also the Chief Scientific Officer for Versea Discovery.

He obtained his Ph.D. from the Medical College of Wisconsin in Pharmacology and Toxicology and did postdoctoral work at UCSD in the Department of Pharmacology under Paul Insel (2002-2005). He has made seminal contributions in shaping new investigation areas on defining the impact of membrane structure on cell, organ, and organismal physiology and metabolism with implications for cardiac ischemia-reperfusion injury, heart failure, diabetic cardiomyopathy, aging, pulmonary hypertension, cancer, and neurodegeneration.

His focus on energetics in cell biology touches upon all of these and is a control point for managing and empowering human health resilience.
