Mitochondria’s link to patient health

Individuals that have disease, are sick, or are in poor health will have poorly functioning mitochondria and compromised dynamics. Individuals who eat properly, have good sleep hygiene, train, or exercise demonstrate improved mitochondrial function and dynamics.

  • Mitochondria

Mitochondria are organelles that live inside your cells and regulate energy, metabolism, and cellular signaling to drive the body’s physiology, endurance, and resilience. The function, dynamics, structure and efficiency of mitochondria correlate with either health and well-being or poor health and sickness.

  • Your Health

Normal aging, diet, exercise, exposure to stressors and other variables have been proven to impact mitochondria function (energetics), and dynamics (shape and size).¹⁻³ The maintenance of mitochondrial function and dynamics are essential to health.

mescreen™

The mescreen™ is a “mitochondrial efficiency” test that provides a detailed energetic profile of an individual that establishes baseline mescreen™ data to measure against in the future.

The science

mescreen™ uses analytical equipment, patented assays and processes that optimize the generation of functional, dynamic and structural measures delivered. The foundation science behind mescreen™ is the ability to measure oxygen consumption rate (OCR) and extracellular acidification rate (ECAR) in live cells. OCR and ECAR rates are key indicators of mitochondrial respiration and glycolysis. These measurements provide a systems-level view of cellular metabolic functions which are precursors to downstream physiologic processes.

  • Provides information on
how efficiently your body is creating and storing energy and ability to recover.

  • Differentiates how you
make energy (efficiently or inefficiently) and how this changes when mitochondria are forced to work maximally.

  • Determines free radicals generated when mitochondria are stressed and not functioning properly.

  • Reports how interconnected your mitochondria are as disruption of the mitochondrial network can cause mitochondrial dysfunction, which has been implicated in multiple disorders.

  • Mitochondrial Stress & ATP Rate Profile

Includes detailed information on how your body is producing and storing energy (ATP) and ability to recover from stress.

  • Bio-energy Profile

Determines how your body produces energy at basal and stressed states. The Plus Panel includes all of the tests on the essential panel plus the bio-energy profile.

  • Free Radical Production and Structural Analysis

Quantifies basal levels of reactive oxygen species under conditions of high stress and analyzes cellular images to assess structure, integrity, and organization of the mitochondria. This panel includes all of the tests run on the essential and plus panels.
